(1) Physical properties

Lightweight and portable: Most non-woven fabrics are mainly made of polypropylene resin, with a specific gravity of only 0.9, approximately three-fifths that of cotton. They are fluffy in texture and comfortable to the touch. This ensures that non-woven fabric products do not impose excessive burdens on users during use, such as shopping bags and disposable clothes made of non-woven fabric, which are light and easy to carry.

Flexible and breathable: Composed of fine fibers (2-3D) and formed through light dot hot melt bonding, it endows the non-woven fabric with moderate softness, providing comfort when it fits the human body or other application scenarios. Meanwhile, its porous structure composed of 100% fibers endows it with excellent breathability, making it easy to keep the fabric surface dry. For instance, in products such as surgical gowns and masks in the medical and health field, as well as wet wipes in household life, its breathability ensures a comfortable experience during use.

Moisture-proof and water-repellent: Taking polypropylene chips as an example, they do not absorb water by themselves and have a moisture content of zero, which makes the finished non-woven fabric have excellent water repellency. Non-woven fabrics used for covering in the field of agriculture and horticulture, as well as some non-woven fabric products for outdoor use, can effectively resist moisture and prevent internal items from getting damp.

(II) Chemical Properties

Non-toxic and non-irritating: The products are mostly made from FDA food-grade raw materials, free of harmful chemical components, stable in performance, odorless, and will not irritate the skin or items in contact. They can be safely used in products that come into close contact with the human body, such as baby diapers and sanitary wipes.

Antibacterial and chemical resistance: Materials such as polypropylene have relatively passive chemical properties, are not subject to insect damage, and can effectively isolate the erosion of bacteria and insects in liquids. Moreover, they have certain resistance to acids, alkalis and other chemical agents. Even if they are eroded, their strength is not easily affected, ensuring the service life and performance stability of non-woven fabrics in complex environments.

(3) Environmental protection features

In the current era when environmental protection has become a global consensus, the environmental advantages of non-woven fabrics are becoming increasingly prominent. Most non-woven fabrics are made of polypropylene, which has a relatively unstable chemical structure and its molecular chains are prone to breakage. They can be effectively degraded in the natural environment. A non-woven fabric shopping bag can be completely decomposed within 90 days. If placed indoors, it can also be fully decomposed within 8 years. In contrast, the raw material of plastic bags, polyethylene, has a stable chemical molecular structure and is extremely difficult to degrade, taking 300 years to decompose completely. Moreover, non-woven fabric shopping bags can be reused more than 10 times. After being discarded, their pollution to the environment is only 10% of that of plastic bags, significantly reducing the pressure on the environment and conforming to the concept of sustainable development.
